Homeowners want their decks and outdoor spaces looking their best for holiday gatherings, which means more demand for pressure washing services … and more questions coming to our tech support team.

“What should I use to restore wood that has environmental stains?”

“How do I use HD Britenol for wood restoration?”

Dilution rates for HD Britenol are flexible, making it easy to match the strength of the solution to the job at hand. Whether you’re tackling heavy buildup or routine maintenance, HD Britenol gives you control without sacrificing performance.

For tougher cleaning projects with heavy staining, it can be used at stronger concentrations (ranging from undiluted up to 15 parts water to 1 part HD Britenol) delivering the power needed to break down stubborn grime. For everyday maintenance and general cleaning, professional cleaners typically dilute it between 20:1 and 60:1, making it a highly economical choice without compromising results.

When using HD Britenol to restore wood, always complete a test in an inconspicuous area to determine the ideal dilution for your specific surface and condition.

To ensure a safe, effective clean every time, a few simple steps go a long way. Always cover or thoroughly rinse surrounding landscaping before and after application to protect plants and nearby surfaces. Before applying, pre-wet the surface to be cleaned as well as adjacent areas that might come in contact with the cleaning solution. Then apply HD Britenol using a pressure washer or a low-pressure sprayer for even, controlled coverage.

If glass is present be sure to prewet and rinse preventing the solution from drying on the surface.

For best results when working to restore wood, apply HD Britenol twice, spacing applications three to five minutes apart without allowing the product to dry on the surface. The first application is intended to penetrate the surface, while the second works to lift the stain out.

Always rinse thoroughly before the product dries. Use a garden hose or a pressure washer for deeper stains, ideally with a 40° nozzle. Avoid using excessive pressure that could damage or mark the surface, and never use a zero-degree nozzle. Proper rinsing techniques are essential to achieving the best final appearance and overall quality.

Note: HD Britenol should not be used on chrome surfaces.

HD Britenol can be used as a one-step cleaner or as part of a two-step cleaning system (acid followed by alkaline) with Cleansol BC. The two-step system creates a neutralization effect and can boost overall cleaning performance and stain removal.
