C-TAR
MELT
Tar Remover
Description
and Use
C-Tar
Melt is a blend of water soluble non hazardous ingredients that
give exceptionally powerful penetration and softening action. This
product is not dilutable with water, in fact, its' action will be
stopped with the application of water. It is biodegradable and will
aid in the separation of the tar residue from the rinse water if
you contain and store the runoff for a short period of time. The
ingredients do not harm the skin though they will dry it out if
left constantly exposed to the tar remover. C-Tar Melt is safe for
wood, metal, and masonry surfaces and will not raise the grain or
cause discoloration of the surface on its' own. This is a powerful
penetrating system, so the best method of tar removal from a painted
vehicle is by putting a small amount on a cloth and wiping. Some
softening of the paint may occur that will be stopped on rinsing
but it is very important to always check the reaction before leaving
C-Tar Melt on the surface.
Advantages
*Power
penetration and softening action.
Limitations
*Will
cause rubber to swell

Preparation
*Protect:
Test and protect adjacent and surrounding surfaces not intended
to be cleaned from exposure to the cleaning solution.
*Surface
& Air Temperatures
Best
cleaning results are obtained when air and masonry surface temperatures
are 40 deg. Fahrenheit or above. If freezing conditions exist prior
to application, allow adequate time for masonry to thaw.
*Pre-Testing
Always
test prior to beginning full-scale cleaning operations. Testing
should confirm cleaning effectiveness on each type of surface and
stain designated to be cleaned. Test also to determine the desired
surface contact time and any potential for adverse reactions with
adjacent materials. Allow test panels to dry thoroughly before evaluating
final appearance and results.
Application
Instructions
C-Tar
Melt is not dilutable and must be used as it comes from the container.
As with all solvents proper testing of the material on the surface
to be stripped is the only way to determine the correct safe procedure.
Basic guide lines would be that the material works better at an
ambient temperature in the 70° Fahrenheit range. Proper ventilation
should always be a consideration when long term exposure will occur.
It is recommended that skin contact be kept to a minimum and at
least a water rinse be used after contact. Sometimes two applications
one following the other after a short soak period will out perform
a single application and mechanical removal. Dwell times will vary
with thickness of the coating to be stripped but C-Tar Melt can
remove many materials in a fifteen minute time span, heavy layers
may be removed with an over night soak. Pressure washer rinsing
with at least 1500 psi is recommended for best results.
Coverage
Rates
Coverage
rates will vary from 100 - 250 sq. ft./gal. depending on the surface
porosity, texture and severity of staining.
Safety Information
*Precautionary
Measures:
Always wear goggles and gloves when handling this product. Keep
off of skin and clothing. If material comes in contact with clothing,
wash before reuse. Contains Petroleum Hydrocarbon. Do not get in
eyes, on skin or clothing. Avoid breathing fumes. Keep container
closed when not in use. Use with adequate ventilation. Applicators
should wear boots and gloves, face shields and/or goggles made of
solvent resistent materials to avoid splash to bare skin or eyes.
Though the potential for fuming of C-TAR MELT is minimal, take precautions
to avoid exposing building occupants to fumes. Dispose of empty
containers according to federal, state and local requirements. Avoid
drifting of material or rinse water onto autos and pedestrians by
protecting or diverting such traffic. Do not dilute C-TAR MELT.
Do not use for any other applications other than specified. Do not
remove label. Read Material Safety Data Sheet for additional safety
and health hazard information prior to use.
*First Aid + Instructions in Case of Contact or Exposure Skin & Eye Contact:

Disposal Method: Check state, local or federal regulations for your
area. Steps to be taken if material is released or spilled: Large
spill; dike and contain for intended use. Small spill; absorb on
oil dry and place in approved container for disposal.
Container
Handling/Storage

in a cool dry place. Vent bung before opening. Keep container tightly
closed when not in use. Do not use pressure to empty container.
Wash thoroughly after handling. Do not use container as dilution
or rinsing vessel. Do not cut, grind or weld on or near container.
Empty containers retain residue and vapors and must be handled as
if full.
