VENEER RESTORATION

Veneer restoration has three types of cleaning situations, they are:

GRANITE
Granite is generally a very straightforward proposition as regards cleaning it. The only questions regard the degree of safety required during the process. If for instance the cleaning is on a cathedral or church with a lot of very expensive or irreplaceable stained glass windows we would strongly recommend the absolute safety of the SafeRestore If the job is a normal restoration without any special concerns the GSR will leave a gleaming surface quickly and inexpensively. Because of the differing mineral contents in the wide variety of granites we recommend testing both products on every job using a single soap application and a pressure washer rinse. Allow the wall to thoroughly dry before evaluating the final result. Some of what are termed granites is actually other stones. Absolute black "granite" is really Gabbro with a different chemical makeup. These stones can be etched if GSR is used undiluted. All testing on these veneer stones should proceed from higher dilution to lower to test which dilution and cleaning method (single or double soap) will give optimum results.

MARBLE
Marble is usually cleaned with SafeRestore when it is outside and exposed to the weather. Like granite, while the structural mineral for marble is consistently calcium carbonate, the colorant minerals will vary and this can affect the dilutions greatly. SafeRestore though generally used undiluted in most restoration applications may be cut up to 20:1 when used on unpolished marble. Prewet thoroughly and rinse this soft stone carefully and thoroughly whichever rinse method is chosen. Polished marble can be cleaned with a very dilute SafeRestore or Polished Marble Cleaner (neutral). PMC or BSP is a very safe product as in regards to all substrates but is still a powerful cleaner that while non damaging to humans can strip waxes and acrylic finishes. If you desire to clean a waxed or sealed marble with no harm to the finish but still be able to remove human oils and other soils we recommend our cleaner be cut 50:1. That is less than 2 ounces per gallon. No rinse would be necessary although a damp cloth could be used.
