GRAFFITI,
Painted surface
Graf-Ex is a special purpose
stripper designed for safety and low odor. It is an outstanding
performer in the removal of inks and paints from painted surfaces.
Water can be used to stop its penetration and to rinse. Graf-Ex
is not dilutable. Use it straight and apply with either a low
pressure spray or wipe it with a cloth. Rinse.
GRAFFITI,
Brick
Stripsol or LCS
will remove most tags. Stripsol
is a solvent based stripper, good on a wide variety of
paints, but safe for the environment. LCS
is a water based product also effective on a wide variety
of surfaces and paint and should be sprayed or agitated, then
pressure washer rinsed.
GRAFFITI,
Limestone, block and sandstone
Stripper Cream is
recommended for the removal of graffiti on limestone because
it will not change the color of the stone or damage its structural
quality. Prewet the wall with a pressure washer. The stripper
may be rolled or brushed on to help it be pushed into the
interstitial pores of the stone. For large areas, spraying
would be beneficial.

Spray with Plexiclean, undiluted,
then wipe off.
Questions
and answers concerning graffiti removal at schools.
Question 1: Standards for successful bidders
Reply: Successful bidders shall be chosen on the basis of both
price and performance criterion. Performance criteria shall have
two components, response time {see appendix 1} and successful removal.
Successful removal shall be judged by three test patches done in
appropriate locales as determined by the architect and adhering
to the following specifications. The first specification and extremely
important criteria will be adherence to the doctrine of DO NO HARM.
Complying with this means that abrasive blasting that in any way
damages the substrate will be not be allowed. Also excessive water
pressure or special nozzles that cause harm to the substrate will
not be allowed. Contractors who are successful bidders will be agreeing
to replace at their cost any substrate that is damaged by ignoring
these constraints. The second specification is that paint shall
be removed so that from twenty feet away no discernible shadow or
distinct impression of the graffiti remains. Essentially all paint
shall be removed unless it would cause greater harm to remove it.
In any case the no shadow rule shall be construed as at least 98%
of paint being removed by area. The third specification is that
the contractor shall remove the paint with one of the specified
products by EaCo Chem Inc. following manufacturers instructions
at all times. These products shall include Stripsol,
LCS, Stripper
Cream, and Graf-Ex.
Question 2: Specifications for graffiti removal from porous stone
or porous brick substrates.
Reply: It is extremely important to adhere to the DO NO HARM
principle when working with these substrates. Paint should be removed
with an application of Stripper
Cream either straight or diluted to increase speed. The wall
should be pre-wet with a mist of water before applying the stripper.
Stripper should be left on the wall sufficient time as to see the
paint change color. This is a good indication of penetration. Rinse
with a pressure washer {may be either a hot water machine or cold
but hot will be faster}to lift residue from in the surface, repeat
if not enough dwell time was allowed.
Question 3: Specifications for graffiti removal from non-porous
surfaces including: painted walls or doors, glass, granite, marble,
EIFS, glazed brick or tile, anodized or galvanized aluminum or aluminum
panels painted or otherwise, stainless steel, fiberglass, or any
other special surfaces
Reply: Removal shall be accomplished by brush applying Graf-Ex
to the surface. Attention should be paid to when color begins to
run to begin removal and surface below to see if any harm is occurring
to substrate especially on an already painted surface. Rinsing can
be accomplished with a pressure washer or with a low-pressure sprayer
and cloth wipe.
Question 4: Specifications for removal of painted over graffiti
Reply: Stripsol, LCS,
or Stripper Cream should
be applied to the dry wall and allowed sufficient dwell time to
completely penetrate all layers of paint as determined by scratching
through the surface to see if the substrate is visible. When surface
is visible rinse with a pressure washer using hot or cold water.
If traces remain on the surface or in mortar joints reapply a dilute
solution of Stripper Cream
cut 4-1 with water and allow it to remain 15 minutes before rinsing
again, repeat if necessary.
